Make a cheap dish antenna/Wajantenna

FOR USB WIFI CARD/DONGLE

WHY USB WIFI CARD/DONGLE?

  1. Plug and play technology is well now established an appreciated, can supply 5V @ 500mA.

  2. Dongle wifi adapter are CHEAP.

  3. USB allows easy swap overs for trials, loan, comparisons and update.

  4. USB cables can be run to 5M or more.

  5. Adaptors can be easily be used with simple and cheap DIY boosting antenna.

  6. USB-WIFI adaptors, even on shorts cables can easily shift around to exploit nearby signal sweet spots, above head height and metal or by windows etc.

  7. USB encourages, educates and empowers users who may other

    wise be intimidated by the “dont touch” nature of the wifi technology.

  8. USB cables and connector are DIRT CHEAP, standart an

    d globally available.

  9. Since all decoding is done in the USB adaptor itself, only lower speed LOSS FREE digital signals pass along USB cables.

Make 2.4GHz parabolic mesh dishes from cheap but sturdy Chinese cookware scoops & a USB WiFi adaptor ! The largest (300mm diam) shows 12-15dB gain (enough for a LOS range extension to 3-5km), costs ~US$5 & comes with a user friendly bamboo handle that suits WLAN fieldwork- if you can handle the curious stares! (Neater boutique versions may better appeal).

The part that you will need to make is :

  1. Chinese cookware with largest diameter you find or you need.

  2. Wok Cook

  3. USB wifi Card

  4. Some cable you need

  5. Ruler

  6. Tripod or Gasp or something usefull to pointing the antenna

After all part have collected,

  1. The fisrt step

Find the Focal point of a parabola:

D: Diameter of the cookware

C: Depth to centre
